Let's see... the house sold and I am back in Ohio. Things have just been insane, and I dont feel like rehashing it all again. All that matters in my husband and I are back together in the same freaking place. I got a new camera, so why dont I show off some of my shots?
I am saving my pennies for a good macro lens for it. It has a decent enough macro function, but I want more. I havent been selling anything on line for a long while now, but I have been trying to destash when I have time over at tophatter, but I find I am buying more than I am selling (which is okay, I guess).
I recently found what appears to be a really fun knitting group and hubby and I have joined a local gaming group... so let's hope we can get some friends soon! Heck, I might even be marching with a person I met through Etsy and is local here.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-64847063276597883672011-10-09T13:19:00.000-04:002011-10-09T13:19:35.315-04:00Wow... it has been a while

Well, life has sorta kicked me in the ass. I have moved several times over the past two years and this blog sorta fell off my radar. Once my life calms down enough were I can formulate some kind of plan for this blog, it will probably stay sporadic at best. For now, I thought I would share some of the craft projects I have been working on with you all.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-46293435979023818442010-11-20T18:27:00.000-05:002010-11-20T18:27:58.231-05:00So... life happenedPeople out there in cyber-land might be wondering what happened to me. To give you a quick run down... we bought a house, started fixing up the house, I lost my job, we moved into the house and after 2 weeks of living the the house, I had to start my new job 900 miles away. Hubby is still in the house fixing it up to sell it and I am now living with bare bones in a -okay- apartment in an -meh- part of town while working. What have I been doing in the mean time? Knitting, playing Fallout: New Vegas and getting ready for my thesis defense. Oh, and having bouts of sanity questioning depression. Such fun times. So... here are some of the things I have been working on, knitting wise (the shirt is not yet finished):

They lasted one month shy of a year. I am very very not happy about this, but I know that I will have a better chance with interviews with 'normal person' hair. I had to send my husband off to the local store to get the conditioner because I started crying just thinking of it. It took a week of work to get them all out. We did a good amount on the weekend (starting in the back and working forward) and a few each day after that. We did not cut my hair short, because with how 'red' this state is, we figured long 'feminine' hair would also be more desirable. It hurt so bad, after a while I started taking tiny (like a half a teaspoon) swigs of rum after each one was done. We also broke my dread comb, loosing 3 steel teeth. Here are some before pics. Can you tell I am not happy about this?

Take a look at all the hair that came off my head (yes, that is a quarter next to the massive hair ball)! Even if I do get a job where I can have dreads, I am going to have to let my hair regrow so it isnt so thin!

I got a haircut after this because it was just too long. Nothing fancy though, just a normal.
The third floor bathroom now have a working vanity, toilet AND shower! How exciting! We even installed some lighting. We have two more things to finish in the bathroom, and they are prep/paint the walls and find a mirror to complete the medicine cabinet. It will be white with silver/platinum accents.

We also put in the order for out (few) kitchen cabinets AND ordered our granite counter top. It was sort of funny with the granite. We went to a local stone yard that had all their stone out so you could go around see exactly the slab you were buying. Once you picked one out they actually write your name right on it! It was really hard for the three of us (husband, visiting mom, and me) to visualize the kitchen. The colors in the kitchen are going to be yellow/white/bronze/light browns. While the color scheme is going to be bitch'n', it isnt what any of us naturally gravitate towards. All of us naturally go for blacks and grays! Anyway, I had a small sample of the wood color our cabinets will be and I was going around holding it up to all the slabs trying to pick one out. I went up to one and it looks good, so I ask the guy what it was. "Golden Kashmir"... okay. I keep looking around and find another one that looks good. "Golden Kashmir" I actually picked out the same stone 4 separate times in four different places in the yard! I figured it was a sign, and ran with it. I cant wait for it all to go in and to be able to show all of you!

We also found a new flowering plant in our backyard. If anyone has any idea what it is... please let us know! It is very pretty and I plan on keeping it. It is actually growing in around the mulberry bush/tree.

Our new back and basement doors are in along with their brand new fancy smanshy locks. Hazzah!

Hopefully, we can get a lot done over the holiday weekend.... we shall see!Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-74494102528530273072010-06-19T20:34:00.003-04:002010-06-19T20:40:14.683-04:00House Update 2: And so it Begins....This update is probably going to be a little short. Work has begun, but a lot of it you cant really see. We picked out the colors etc for our new soffits, which I think will go really well with the paint job. The work done on the roof/gutters seems to have helped with the water intrusion problems we were having in the basement! Our two new doors have been installed (along with some very fancy locks from Mul-T-Lock), but they arent finished trimming them yet. The Bilco door has yet to arrive, but the two other doors make the house a LOT more secure.
We met with the cabinet person this past week to talk about our options. We should get everything priced out next week... because price really is a huge determinate in our kitchen remodel. Cabinets etc. are coming out of pocket, so as we find more stuff that needs to be fixed (and we have) our kitchen budget shrinks. Most of the pictures I have taken are of the nice and sparkly new pipes that have been plumbed. As of yesterday we now have one working spigot outside and one working utility sink in the basement!

Water means we can start prepping the walls properly! Scraping and peeling are the order of the day. Peeling latex paint is so much fun! Chipping away lead paint... not so much.

We also got a new light fixture/fan combo for the their floor. Isnt it awesome?! It took us like 3 tries to install it because we (I mean I) changed our minds on where it should go/fit...

Another plant decided to bloom in our back yard... and I think we may have a hyacinth bush. I didnt take a picture of it, but I will soon so I can get some second opinions. We did get our first batch of goodies out of our container gardens... some snap beans! We only harvested about 1/3 of the stuff growing, so we should have a couple more dinners worth of them later on when the rest get a big enough to eat. Oh, we also had a minor set back with the container garden though. One of the plumbers helpers decided to overturn one and use the bin as a waste receptacle. We called our contractor, and he replaced the beets with some seedlings and apologized. That was a super nice thing to do. We also got a small fire pit and had our first little mini fire today while we drank some pop and ate icecream. It was a great way to wind down... plus I am a fire bug and I was so proud that I got the little fire going on my first try. Thank you, middle school camp research project... I really did learn something useful!
Keep in mind that it needs work too! The basement is broken up into several areas that take up the whole length and breadth of the house. The first room you walk into is the laundry room, which has no washer, dryer or functional water heater (thank to the arse that cut the lines going to it). No pictured is the basement door which was kicked in on several occasions and will be replaced.

Next is the work room. This will be the future Mr. Fuzzy's work shop for all his handy man and tinkering needs. I love that it has some kind of old reclaimed wooden sink of some kind, which opens up too!

There is a blue room, which was billed as a 'rec room' by the bank. Yeah, right... I have a feeling this is just going to be a storage room (or maybe an exercise room when ever we have the money to get such fancy things). The walls and ceiling are that blue. I have no idea why. That will probably change when we paint over it with basement waterproofing paint (thank God!).

Next is the worlds narrowest bathroom. Well, it will be once we fit a toilet in there. We have to go on a scavenger hunt for the worlds narrowest sink too. The broken in window is thanks to another idiot who decided to break in the only window not large enough to fit anyone over the age of 12 through. That will be replaced by glass blocks.
Not pictured is a small storage closet under the stairs and the room with the furnace in it. On to the more exciting news....
The contractors have started working!!!! Work has started on the roof (lets hope the weather stays nice so they can continue). The kitchen skin/cabinet has been removed and a small amount of plumbing work has started in the basement. They will start more plumbing work once the doors come in later this week and we put the new very spiffy locks on them that we ordered. We have started to scrape the walls, but without water, we cant wash and prep the walls for painting... but I cant wait to start that step! We also put in a great fan into the library. Check out my flickr for notes on all these images!
I know... I am a terrible blogger. I have blogged on my COE blog and I have blogged (a tiny bit) for the Team Bacon! blog, but nary a word on my own personal blog. I have subjects lined up and everything, but they have just fell by the wayside. Part of the reason is that my hubby and I have been trying to buy a house... since January! After every hoop, crazy strange rules, changes in laws, monkey wrenches and general insanity... we finally became home owners two weeks ago. The house we bought is beautiful.... It is a 3 story, solid brick Victorian built in 1901. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and 2 half baths.

BUT.... it needs a lot of work. I am going to try to keep a journal of sorts as we fix up the place. So today I am going to start with the 'before' pictures. You can see a collection of all the house pictures here and they even have some notes in them if you want to look around.

These are pictures are off the biggest problem the house has.... major gutter damage. This house is 109 years old and has box gutters. Two things you need to know about box gutters is that 1. They need to be kept clean and clear of debris because 2. they are an integral part of the roof. Unlike gutters today, these are just built right into the wooden overhangs of the roof. If they arent cleared and water backs up, it just sits there and rots the wood. Well, given that our house has been vacant (a foreclosure) for ... we think... 3-5 years, the gutters are in horrible shape. That leads us to our second major issue:

These are pictures of the water damage on the first floor (yellow kitchen) and the second floor bedroom (blue room... but there are like 3 blue rooms, so dont get confused). Oh, and that last image? That is grass growing out of the mortar in between the brick of our house. This is because the mortar is so full of water, it can support life. Wonderful... There doesnt seem to be any water damage on the 3rd flood, which is good. Luckily, since the walls are solid plaster, once they get dried out we can just re-surface them and repaint them, and they will be as good as new. The basement has some water issues, but we think once we fix the roof the basement will dry out and we can paint some water blocking paint over the walls and call it a day. I dont have any images yet of the basement because when I took these photos we didnt have electricity yet and it is dark in there.
You may also be able to see another issue in the kitchen... the back door. Both the back door, and the two basement doors had been kicked in. The place had been broken into before we first looked at it, and then subsequently broken into at least 5 more times after we started trying to buy it. The idiots broke a window in the basement, broke out the window above the back door, busted the doors (again, they had to be replaced anyway), and the last time stole some copper pipes in the basement. Excuse my french, but fuck them! Luckily, the house was under contract so we got some money back for the pipes.

The totality of the kitchen cabinets and counter space is held within the above picture. I hope we can fix that problem (depends on the budget). We do have a butlers pantry and normal pantry, but I am aching for some counter space. Oh, there also isnt a single appliance, toilet or plumbing fixture left in the house. About 95% of the light fixtures were removed as well. Here are some we still have:

I hope you can start to see why we actually wanted this house though. It is full of character and presence you just cannot build into a house these days! We need to fix and repaint a lot of stuff, but I want to leave you with some of my favorite bits of the house that will make it all worth while.
(Imagine that!) Well, I wrote my first article for them... a taste test between beef bacon and normal bacon. Come and read it!Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-4641349584346125102010-04-18T17:55:00.002-04:002010-04-18T18:00:13.592-04:00Long Term Review of Brooksbot75 Skull PurseI got an awesomely wicked handmade metal skull purse from Brooksbot75 a while ago. I was lucky enough to interview him for my other blog, fell head-over-heals in love with this purse... which I then saved up all my precious pennies to buy to replace my busted and thread bare 'crocheted' purse monstrosity I bought at Target for 10 bucks about a year before to fill the need for a purse. I figured a freaking metal purse would last longer! I got it a little after the first of the year.

It took a little bit of time to get my purse because I ordered it right during the x-mas rush... but I was in no hurry. Pursey (that's what I named him) came with the custom length chain so I could put the purse over my shoulder. I dont know why most purses these days have short straps so that you cannot use both your hands while shopping or have to stuff it in your armpit... again impeding use of your arms. I am one of those crazy people who want a purse securely slung across my body, but I still want to use both arms and hands without having to worry about my purse falling either to my elbow or onto the floor... go figure.

Pursey is lined, which is nice. It saves my keys, pocket book and cellphone from unnecessary wear and lessens the amount of sounds coming from my purse. My purse does squeak on occasion (from the movement of the chain... think school yard swings) but that is easily stopped by resting hand on top of his very touchable cranium. I know that I am constantly fingering his smooth metal surface and tracing his copper grommets! This 'chrome dome' makes a great drum to pass the time, too!

Pursey is heavy, but it almost all comes from the chain. The chain is steel, while the purse itself is lightweight aluminum. I plan on some day replacing the chain with a leather equivalent to lighten the load. This purse, as a bonus, could definitely be used as a self defense weapon if needed. (I need to level up so I can get WP Chain.... gamer geek humor there) Given that it is a metal skull, I would imagine that that would also be a theft deterrent.

Pursey is a bit small inside. I can only fit my small pocket book, basic cellphone and my keys in him. That is okay with me, I have always been drawn to small purses. The opening mechanism is simple, but I believed it has been redesigned a bit (I have the first version of this purse, and I believe Brooksbot75 is onto a second version) I still like it. It can open unexpectedly if you bump it just right, so be warned.

Random people comment about him all the time. I frequently get "Is that a purse?", "Cool skull!" and "Did you make that?" from all kinds of people. I have even had people ask to take pictures of my purse with their cellphones!

Overall Impression:
Pros: Awesome design, small, graphic, can be a weapon, eye-catching, decent price, handmade.
Cons: Can be a bit heavy with the steel chain, can open unexpectedly, small, watch out when around things that can scratch... like the paint jobs on cars.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-7500733140491640702010-03-17T23:47:00.000-04:002010-03-17T23:47:54.083-04:00Someone has been very BAD!Well, partially me because I havent updated in a while... sorry about that. Life is really hectic right now (that's what I always say... right?)
The real bad girl today was my kitty Dot. Hubby and I were working on getting some paper work put together for a very important meeting and we heard a crash. We had no idea what it could be, so we started to investigate. In the hallway we see Dot, doing her best "OMG, I did something bad, avoid mom and dad" routine.

Shut up, you love me!

Going into the craft room, we are greeted with this:

We only had about 15 minutes to clean it up before we had to leave for this meeting! Luckily I knew a trick. I learned this on the Etsy forums... so if you ever have a bead spill this is what you do. Take a nylon and put it over the nozzle of your vacuum. Let the 'foot' part be loose enough to suck into the nozzle a bit. Secure it with a rubber band if you have one... now all you need to do is vacuum up the beads and empty the nylon filter when you loose suction. Voila!
I am guessing Dot was trying to see if she could get on the stack of bead boxes I had in the corner of my desk (she likes to climb and get into funky spaces) and she managed to topple the 'tower'.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-76377520812245530022010-01-28T07:34:00.003-05:002010-01-28T10:32:24.040-05:00Dreads: 5 monthsI am updating you on my dread journey (and coming up soon I am actually going to update my blog with a couple product reviews, yeah!). I have had my dreads for a little over 5 months now, and they are coming along slowly but surely. I am trying to keep up my maintenance with ripping the roots. I hope to soon strong arm my husband into sitting down with a tapestry needle and helping me sew in some of the errant hairs. I have some pics of me with my hair down (a rare event) and some of my more 'special' dreads.
You can see in the pic of me that I got an awesome purse! I will be writing about that soon, because I am just so stoked to get it! I also got some BaconSalt (they sell it at the Kroger around here!!!). It took all my willpower to not just crack it open last night when I got it and eat it all right there. I havent even smelled it. I am cant wait to write that review!
Sorry.

First off, here is some food from my favorite restaurant back in East Lansing, Michigan. It is called Sushi Ya. I eat there every time I return to the area (I have family there). The first image is of my husbands' dinner... just some normal sushi rolls, but they make them HUGE there. I dont mind. One of our unlikely favorites on that plate is the one in the foil. If I remember correctly it is called the Yellow Stone. It has bacon in it, and even while it isn't very traditional, it is really good. The others I think are just a Spider roll and a California role probably.

The second picture is of my absolute favorite dish. I cant remember what it is called (EDIT: according to my husbands' notes this is verbatim from the menu = Nigasa Udon: Japanese noodles seafood, and vegetables tossed in special mayo dressing), but it is under the soups and salads I think. Something with 'udon' in it. Anyway, it has sashimi on top along with veggies and roe. They used to put some mushrooms on top too, but this time I didnt see any. Under that is a layer of lettuce. Hidden from view is what makes this special, which is a mound of chilled udon noodles tossed in some kind of heavenly mayonnaise mixture. This is a huge dish, and I try to always finish the whole thing, but I rarely succeed. It is just so good, I cannot articulate it well enough. I have yet to find this dish at any other sushi place...and I look! If anyone has any ideas on how I could make this at home... please let me know! I have tried to make it, but I have yet to find the magic combination.

Back to my current state: Ohio. There is a wonderful amusement park/grocery store/everything by us. It is called Jungle Jims. If you ever get a chance to go to this world wonder, please take the time and do it! This place is huge and full of every kind of food from all around the world you can think of.... and many you didnt. There is a normal grocery store, a organic/healthy store, huge alcohol store, smoke store and then an international food store all rolled into one building. To give you an idea of how large the international food section is, it is broken up into COUNTRY! Like... you want some New Zealand quinine? Find the New Zealand isle. North Korean? Find the isle. They also have a huge meat section, huge cheese section, and they have a fish section with tanks of fish were you can go... pick out the fish you want to eat and they will kill it for you. Now that is fresh! We went not to long ago to find some fun stuff to try. We decided on duck for Thanksgiving, but we as we passed these heads for sale, I picked up some beef heart. Want proof? I got pictures! We are going to goback to get some rattlesnake for New Years diner.

The heart was so much fun to prepare and cook! I loved cleaning it (remove the heart sack, it is tough) because it was like a dissection! I loved seeing all the connective tissues and valves (or what was left of them). I think we only got a quarter of a heart, but it was still a good size. We made it into a stew of sorts, with onions, mushrooms and thick gravy which we then poured over mashed potatoes. OMG it was so good, I cant wait to use heart in something else! I wish I could have taken a pic of the final presentation, but the camera batteries died!
They are being a pain... my hair texture is probably one of the hardest to dread... but I am not going to give up!Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-78227330444421486662009-11-18T21:32:00.002-05:002009-11-18T21:53:08.523-05:00Best Freaking Hair Dryer EVER!!! (story included)This is my saga of the elusive Hot-n-Gold Ionic Soft Bonnet Dryer Model #Gh2138. Listen and learn, my children, to my story.

Once upon a time, there was a girl interested in getting natural dreads. She pined away for years, waiting until she had the time and resources to do it (mostly) right. She researched and found the most perfect ideal (and highest rated and well reviewed on Amazon) bonnet style hair dryer to dry her dreads in a timely manner. She found the fabled Hot-n-Gold bla bla bla (see my first paragraph). It works reliably, is hot, can be used hands free (so she can blog while drying her hair), durable and all around great design. But lo, can she find anyplace on the whole interwebs to buy such a magnificent hair drying machine? No. Amazon is out of stock, eBay is useless, Google just laughs.

Dejected, she buys a warming conditioner cap by mistake (which was returned, but she was out postage). She then found what she thought would be a suitable substitute... but the much anticipated package never arrived (being diverted to her old address which she forgot to update... then stolen because the tracking info said "delivered").

After months of frustration (and loosing a bunch of money on a priority packaged that SHOULD have been re-routed given the USPS's own rules and admission...grr) the poor girl had all but given up hope of ever finding her magical golden cap. A life of feebling attempting to dry a full head of dreads with a normal dryer which would not fit a bonnet attachment because it was shaped abnormally mixed with hours of air trying awaited.

To sooth her wounded soul, the girl (along with her prince charming) went to the local mall to eat hot soft pretzels with mayonnaise (it is really good, try it!). While they walked around, the girl spotted a beauty supply store (not a chain one). One look couldnt hurt right? Maybe she could at least see if they even had bonnet hair dryers for sale, but she didnt think they would.

Much to her surprise, on the lowest shelf.... lay the Hot-n-Gold beauty she had been hoping for all along! Throwing fiscal conservancy to the wind she quickly grabbed the box and hurried to the register (thank god they took plastic)!

To this day, the dready girl sits, typing away, drying her dreads quickly and hands free, gladly thanking the bonnet dryer gods for allowing her the joy of sharing her story and inspiring others with soaking wet hair that they too... if they are lucky, can find their own golden crown to hotly blast their worries (and wetness) away!

Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-36540354607173906822009-11-12T21:31:00.003-05:002009-11-12T22:06:39.817-05:00Halloween Dinner: Hot Dog Creatures Covered in SnotI know its a bit after Halloween, but I have had so many other things on my plate I havent been able to post much. We made a special Halloween odd diner: Hot dog creatures with Snot sauce. Basically sliced up hot dogs with spaghetti poked through them with Alfredo sauce (from a can too, I didnt have time to make my own). If it had been marinara sauce we would have called it blood! Not to bad, and interesting to prepare, cook and eat! The part of the spagehetti going through the hot dog was a tiny bit less cooked than the rest. It was barely notable, but still good. I might try this again with something like Italian sausage or something with a bit more sophisticated flavor.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-71399989311676995092009-11-09T21:33:00.002-05:002009-11-09T21:35:41.361-05:00Dreads at about 3 months

Just took these yesterday. First off, if you haven't gone to your local Target store and checked out their Halloween stuff, you should. They have the best displays and candies I have ever seen...though this year I have yet to see any gummy dissection kits :(
Target is also the only place I have found that carries the rare and wonderful Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses. I found them last year and by the time I found they were the equivalent of candy crack... our local Target had sold out. You should go out and buy as many bags as you can afford now. You will not be sorry. I promise.
Last year I picked up a great skull cookie jar to go with my eyeball salt and pepper shakers and brain bowl. I am determined to have a 'mad scientist' themed kitchen... but I digress. This year I picked up some great metal skeletal hands serving forks. They are just great fun to play with! (I the shirt in the picture was also bought at Target... along with a dozen or so other Halloween themed T-shirts).

There was also this awesome black/silver fiberglass skull pot thing. We couldnt quite figure out exactly what it was supposed to be... you couldn't put candy in it without fear of little kids falling in (plus it would take a metric ton of candy to fill it) and it didnt have any drainage for potted plants. We drilled said holes, and now it is a planter waiting for spring to be filled with photosynthesizing organisms.

Not pictured, I also picked up a pair of knit gloves with skeletal fingers printed on them for a buck. Working in a medical building... I get a lot of complements! A glowing skull to hang from our balcony, bloody hand prints for the sliding glass door and a skeleton cling for my back seat of my car also been making their appearances for the first time this year. I have also gotten a plethroa of Halloween themed socks just for fun too.

I have also been working on a Halloween wreath, complete with hand painted skull, black and purple flowers, sparkles and black feather boas. It looks pretty darn kick-arse if you ask me!

Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-2456410788912077002009-10-04T16:29:00.003-04:002009-10-04T16:35:25.538-04:00New Shop!I am going to officially announce that I am opening a second shop that will focus on fiber goods of all kinds: Fuzzy Hearts Yarn! It will (eventually) have all my knitted and crocheted goods, handmade needles, hand spun yarns, stitch markers, destashes... and what ever else I think might fit. I hope I can keep two shops straight... because that is my biggest fear that kept me from opening two shops for a long time. I felt that my first shop was just too cluttered and it was time. I will slowly be adding stuff from my current shop into my new one as they expire and list new stuff directly to my new shop. My first item is a lovely hat, if anyone is interested!

Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-48542400641636111472009-09-13T22:49:00.003-04:002009-09-13T22:56:42.585-04:00Dread Journey: 1 Month 1 WeekI know I said I would take a picture of my dreads each month, but right now I think it is going to be when ever I can. This picture was taken at one month and one week. They need a lot of tightening, both at the root and at the ends. My ends tend to curl when they are just washed too... which is a bit strange, but cute when I have them up in a pony tail. I like them about 150% better when they are up in a pony tail. I worry about back combing them too much and having the hair break.

I know they are just baby dreads, but I want them to lock up as fast as I can make them! So far, my hair regimine is: wool sleeping tam, 1:1 dilution of Dr. Bronners Tea Tree Oil soap, spray with saline solution occassionally, spray with lemon juice solution occasionally, one a week no-poo baking soda/vinegar rinse treatment, and backcomb/crochet hook when ever it is clean and I/my husband have the time. I dont think I have ever put this much work into a hairdo ever!Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-21078124844717735522009-09-09T21:34:00.002-04:002009-09-09T21:50:26.521-04:00Stuff Just For MeI just wanted to show off two of my latest creations.

The first is my attempt at the Wren pattern. I used some Lorna's Lace Shepard Sock Yarn in Hermosa. I like how it came out, but I may reposition the button.

The second item is a tam, just for me to sleep in. I have heard that sleeping in a wool hat will help them dread... so bingo! That what I want to make! I used Fisherman's Wool from Lion Brand in Nature's Brown. The yarn was different to work with... as it felt at times slippery or greasy. I dont know how to explain it, but the final product was just fine. Maybe it was because it was 100% wool and I had never worked with wool like that. I started out using a pattern from a book I had, but pretty quicky I went off the 'chart' and just went free form. It still worked out just fine.

Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-88642832451053047332009-09-07T17:40:00.004-04:002009-09-07T17:42:53.511-04:00Winners in the Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Giveaway!Congratulations is order for the two winners! For this I have decided to try a few applications. I have tried it straight from the bottle, sausage gravy, on and in turkey burgers and in a stew.

First off: Straight out of the Bottle:

The sauce is thick and a dark reddish brown. The taste is pretty strong, and very sweet. It reminds me of a steak sauce. It would probably make a great steak sauce, because it tastes like a mix between ketchup and A-1. I actually like it better than A-1 because instead of the vinegar-wine bite (which I think can be a bit strong) the Country Bob All Purpose Sauce is nice and sweet. The only down side that I can see is that the product contains high fructose corn syrup, which I am trying to cut out of my families diet.

Breakfast: The Best Sausage Gravy & Biscuits

I have made basically this same recipe before, but without the sauce. I also used the sausage drippings in addition to the butter for the base. I used the same sausage (Bob Evan's Brand) and biscuits (Bisquick). The sauce looks a little darker, but that makes sense because of the darker color of the sauce. The sauce has some nice molasses undertones and I feel it rounds out the sage from the sausage nicely. It transforms the gravy into a more hearty flavor than spicy flavor normal Bob Evan's style gravy tastes like. If you use a less flavorful sausage, I think you would taste the sauce more. It is a nice addition to this breakfast treat!

Lunch: Turkey Burgers (sorry, no picture)

This recipe was an original by my husband. He used a little sauce in the ground turkey burger (along with a few spices, bread and milk). We also put some on the burger once it was done cooking. It wasnt too bad, but I found I actually could taste the sauce in the meat when I ate a few patties cold the next day. Warm, the there was just a little sweetness of the meat. My husband did notice that the burgers had a tentancy to burn in the pan... but that could either be because of all the sugars in the sauce (HFCS, mollases, sugar) or that he had the pan was too hot. We didnt put any other condements or extras on the burgers... so that may also change the interplay of flavors.

Dinner: Slow Cooker Stew

I followed the recipe for this one pretty much dead on, but I used lamb instead of beef. You marinade the meat the night before, which emparts a sweetness to the meat. The stew itself was tomatoe based, which we dont normally do. It actually reminded me of my mom's version of goulash (which isnt a bad thing). There was a lot of liquid in the slow cooker. The stew meat kept some of the sweet flavor, but I think the gamyness of the lamb overpowered the some times delicate flavor but the meat was very tender. We couldnt really taste any of the sauce in the drippings.

Overview: I would definitly use this as a steak sauce. I prefer it to other, more common, steak sauces. I will probably continue to experiment with it in other recipes. It is pretty flavorful when it is by itself but you may need to tweek the amount of the sauce in recipes if you want to make sure you taste it. I recommend trying it, especially if you find normal sauces too strong in the bite department.Fuzzy Izmithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11483710578520664921noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236630521152945996.post-77983390408663006882009-08-28T08:20:00.009-04:002009-08-28T12:54:59.807-04:00Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Interview and Giveaway!I have some exciting news! I have been contacted by Mr. Al Malekovic from Country Bob Inc to review on of their products, Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce, on my blog. Mr Malekovic also was gracious enough to answer some questions for me for an interview. What makes this even better is he is putting up two bottles of Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce for a blog give away! I cant fit all of these wonderful things into one blog post (who would want to read through ALL of that anyway!?) so I am splitting it into two blog posts, one that contains the interview and blog giveaway, and another that will detail the culinary creations my husband and I make and try using Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce. First off… the interview and giveaway!

Mr. Al Malekovic answered the following questions for me.

What’s the story behind Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce? What was the inspiration? Country Bob was a carnival barker and a Don Rickles all wrapped into one. He owned a gas station and would BBQ for the cronies that came and gossiped. He came up up with the sauce in 1968. In 1982 Country Bob, his son Terry, (He is my son-law), Reed my son and I stared a Corp and put it on the market. We had to learn the hard way. Trail and Error. He died in 2001 of cancer. You can also look at our web site under story.

How large is the Country Bob’s company? We are a very small company, 14 employees, but we are fully automated and have a fine crew. We use food brokers, who help get Country Bobs in the stores.

How many different products does Country Bob’s make? Do you have any new products waiting in the wings? We have four products, Country Bobs, Country Bobs Spicy, Seasoning Salt and a BBQ sauce. Because of the cost of developing a product we are not coming out with anything new. We use to have a Sloppy Bob sauce but we were having it made somewhere else and that company went under and we could not find another to make small batches for us.
